What the CA-1 Form Is

The CA-1 is the federal form for a traumatic work injury. One event, one date: a slip on an icy driveway during mail delivery, a dog bite on your route, a lifting injury at the processing plant, a fall in a federal building. You file it within 30 days of the injury to keep Continuation of Pay eligibility. The hard FECA deadline is 3 years. If something happened at work and you got hurt, the CA-1 is where it starts.

How Our Woodbury Staff Helps You File

The front desk team at our Woodbury office works with CA-1 forms daily. They walk you through every field, make sure the injury description has the specificity OWCP examiners need, verify your supervisor and agency information, and help you get the form submitted correctly. If you're not sure how to describe what happened or whether you need a CA-1 or a CA-2, they'll sort it out with you before anything gets filed.

Long Island's Federal Workforce

Long Island has one of the largest and most spread-out federal workforces in the region. USPS letter carriers and processing plant workers from Garden City, Hicksville, Huntington, Bay Shore, Mineola, Brentwood, Commack, Islip, Deer Park, Selden, Centereach, Patchogue, and dozens of other Nassau and Suffolk towns. TSA officers at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. VA nurses and healthcare staff at the Northport VA Medical Center. FAA controllers at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. SSA claims workers from field offices across the island. Federal court employees in Central Islip. All covered by FECA, all within driving distance of our Woodbury office.

Why Accuracy on the CA-1 Matters for Long Island Carriers

USPS letter carriers are the largest group of CA-1 filers we see on Long Island. Route injuries are common: dog bites, slips on icy walkways, falls from porch steps, knee and ankle strain from years of curbside delivery. The difference between a CA-1 that gets accepted and one that gets questioned is specificity. 'Hurt my back delivering mail' gets flagged. 'Acute lumbar strain sustained while lifting a 35-pound parcel from the ground to the delivery vehicle at 123 Main St, Hicksville, at approximately 11:00 AM during regular route duties' gets accepted. Our staff makes sure yours reads like the second one.
